Bika Ambon , My Hometown’s Speciality

Bika Ambon is a sort of plain cake which has a sweet taste. It looked fibrous in the middle but flat at the upside and downside, it’s yellow in colour. Bika Ambon is one of the Indonesia’s special food. Although the last name of this cake was derived from one of the city at the eastern part of Indonesia, Bika Ambon was originally acknowledged as the special food from Medan. The first Bika Ambon was made by an Ambonese at around 1960. This Ambonese went back to Indonesia with his tasty and worthwhile recipe after wandering for years in Malaysia. But he didn’t go back to his hometown ‘Ambon’ , he left Malaysia for Medan. Since then, Bika Ambon became popular among the Medanese, it is often bought as a gift, it was also well known for its sweet taste and its good-smelt aroma. Bika Ambon is made from the mixture of yolk, sago, sugar, thick coconut’s milk, water, yeast, and tuak (traditional fermented palm wine) which is then heated at a high-temperature oven. The original aroma of Bika Ambon is pandanus, but nowadays, they have been provided with other fine taste and aroma, like: durian, cheese, and chocolate.

Good.
