Medan, the third biggest city in Indonesia, is located in North Sumatera. Medan was built by Guru Patimpus. To memorize his good turn for this city, a statue was built for him. The statue is placed in a junction of Jl. Gatot Subroto and Jl. S. Parman. It is about 500 meters from DPRD or House of Representative building. The statue is a shape of his body. It is painted in white. He is wearing a stole on his shoulder. One of his hand holds a long stick and other points a way.

Some well known building was located in Medan. One of them is Istana Maimoon. it is a palace for one of the king in Medan, Sultan Deli. It was built by the Dutch who conquered there. Near form the palace, there is a mosque. The name of the Mosque is Mesjid Raya. It is about two hundred meters from the palace. These buildings ware built about hundred years ago. They were built as a bribe for the king so the Dutch could easily take anything from Medan. These buildings are the oldest building in Medan.

Another old buildings in Medan are post office, city hall, and Bank Indonesia. All of them are placed in Jl. Guru Patimpus. They were built by the Dutch. The building has a European style. It has many pillars and a European relief. The post office is in the junction of the street. There are many traders who sell stamps in front of the buildings. It makes the beauty of the building can’t be seen. Bank Indonesia is in front of the post office. It is a one storey building. Next to the bank, there is a city hall. The city hall was almost destroyed so in that area a shopping center could be built. Because of the demonstration of the civilian, the destruction was cancelled.
