Fire on Top

One of Jakarta’s famous monuments is Monumen Nasional or publicly known as Monas. This 137 centimeters high monument symbolizes the fight of Indonesian people for its independence against the Dutch. The monument is topped with a bronze fire flame statue covered in 35 kilograms of pure gold. It symbolizes the spirit of Indonesian people that never dies. The fire flame is placed on the top terrace. From inside of this terrace we can have the bird-eye view of Jakarta. Monas also has a diorama room inside the base of the monument. The dioramas show the history of Indonesia. Bendera Pusaka, the first Indonesian flag sewed by the first first-lady of Indonesia, is also kept inside the monument along side with the Indonesian independence declaration by the first president and vice president.
