Pontianak

About Pontianak

Pontianak is a city/town which is exactly located on the equator line. This town mostly dominated by Chinese people who works in trade. Many people of Chinese descent live in the city. The economical growth is very depending on trade ( because of the domination of Chinese ) and industries ( palm oil & rubber). Much of Kalimantan’s original civilians called “Dayak” lives in or near coastal areas.. The Shown here is a small village near the port city of Pontianak & the face of the city.

Exactly i was born in Jakarta, and I’m originally from Jakarta. In 2000, I moved here and I found many interesting matters. One of them is Kapuas River. This beautiful river has a really deep sense for all of the civilians in Pontianak. Even, they have a song about this river. A little part of the lyric said “Sungai Kapuas punye cerite, bile kite nak minum aik’nye”.( In English, Kapuas river has a beautiful story if you drink its water ).It means when you look at this river, you will never forget it wherever you go. Otherside, it has a famous place to visit, equator monument. This monument become an icon for Pontianak, because it is located preciously in the equator line, so when the sun is in the culmination spot, we don’t have our shadow if we stand near to this monument. I love this town more than the city where I come from and I identify my self as a Pontianak’ers because i grew up here.
This town still have an area covered by forest. So, eventhough it is hot because of the equator, at the morning we still can enjoy the fresh & healthy air which is free from smoke and pollution. Then, we can enjoy the peace and relax by visiting the beach, but we have to keep the throttle on for about 3 hours to out of Pontianak. There is a beach named “Pasir Panjang”, which is still very pure as a beach. Pontianak, the best hometown which obliged to be visited.
